History of Kanazawa Shintenchi
Shintenchi Shopping Street, located in Kanazawa, is nestled behind the former Daiwa department store (now LoveLo Katamachi), forming an integral part of the lively Katamachi entertainment district.
When it was first established, the street was home to 65 businesses, including 26 small eateries, 3 sushi restaurants, 1 confectionery shop, 1 bookstore, 4 cafes, 1 traditional Japanese restaurant, 1 kissaten (coffee shop), 1 general restaurant, and even a hotel.
Today, the area boasts a diverse array of establishments, such as small dining bars, sushi restaurants, tobacco and sweets shops, eateries, bars, record stores, fashion boutiques (both new and vintage), izakaya pubs, restaurants, and karaoke venues.
We are committed to cherishing the foundation built by those who came before us, while continuing to grow with the support of our visitors.
Our vision is to become a vibrant and stylish town where people can enjoy good food, lively conversation, joyful singing, and shopping—all in one place.
It is our sincere hope that you will continue to watch over the future of this community, together with the guardian Jizo statue that watches over this street.

The Story of the Jizo Statue
The Jizo statue enshrined at this site was erected 1,180 years ago, in the second year of the Daido era in the early Heian period. Although the origin of its creator is unknown, this sacred statue is known to have miraculous powers and has long been revered by people, continuing to this day.
It is said that at one time, the statue was placed in the residence of Otsuki Denzo, a vassal of Maeda Yoshinori, the sixth lord of Kaga, and prayers were offered to it day and night.
Denzo had made great contributions to the Kaga domain and was awarded a high stipend of 3,600 koku as a foot soldier, but he incurred the wrath of his senior vassals and was exiled to Gokayama in Etchu, where he is said to have taken his own life.
However, Jizo is worshipped by the local people, and Denzo also prays for his soul and secretly prays for good fortune and a new birth. There is no doubt that Jizo's mercy saves people from suffering and bestows blessings according to their connections.
Here, we should offer our respectful obeisances.
